Appellate Advocacy

Deals with Requests for a Review of a Lower Court Decision

What is Appellate Law

An appeal is a request for an appellate court to review the decision of a lower court. The rules governing the appellate process vary depending on the type of case involved. Our attorneys have been involved in both state and federal appeals in the areas of civil law, criminal law, and agency decisions.

Even when the law is on your side, it is possible to lose an appeal on a technicality. In certain cases, motions or even the notice of appeal must be filed within 15 days of the verdict or adverse decision. Therefore, it is important to contact an attorney promptly to protect your appeal rights.

Dutton Law Firm Appellate Advocacy

Our appellate law attorneys are called upon to challenge adverse rulings through an appeal and to preserve favorable rulings being appealed by an opposing party. Our attorneys accurately identify, efficiently research, effectively brief, and persuasively argue the issues on appeal.

The substantive knowledge, research, writing, and oral advocacy skills make our appellate law attorneys an asset during trial preparation as well. They will often be called upon to prepare and respond to motions and jury instructions, and to evaluate other legal issues that arise throughout litigation. We believe this teamwork enables us to provide the best possible representation of our clients.
