John J. Hines has been an active Trial Lawyer since 1980. Following his graduation from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1980, he worked as an Assistant County Attorney in Northwood, Iowa, and then served as Jones County Attorney through 1986. During this time John maintained a general practice office in Monticello which provided experience in most areas of the law. John joined the firm of Dutton, Braun, Staack & Hellman, P.L.C. in 1986. Since that time he has concentrated on trial work. He has a broad-based litigation practice, having tried jury cases in both State and Federal Courts. His General Practice includes but is not limited to Criminal, Employment Discrimination, Slander, Bank Fraud, Breach of Contract, Condemnation Appeals, and other forms of Commercial Litigation. John practices in Family Law and has extensive experience representing landowners in various types of condemnations, including pipeline and highway right-of-way acquisitions.

John is active in professional and civic organizations. He is a member of the Iowa State and Black Hawk County Bar Associations, the Iowa Association for Justice and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has served on numerous church committees and boards. He has been involved in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, is a past Board Member of the Black Hawk-Grundy Mental Health Center, and has served as a Director for Project Phoenix (a housing project serving inner Chicago).

John and his wife have three children. John enjoys coaching their baseball and basketball teams, most sports, and hunting pheasants and ducks.
